STEVAN J. BOSSES is an experienced mediator and arbitrator as well as an attorney who has been licensed to practice in the courts of the State of New York and in the Federal Courts since 1963. He has been a partner in the firms of Watson Leavenworth Kelton & Taggart and Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto where he was involved in litigation in the Federal Courts throughout the United States. His practice has focused primarily on litigating intellectual property cases including those relating to patents, trademarks, copyrights, unfair competition and trade secrets.

Mr. Bosses has mediated numerous disputes in a wide variety of cases including many involving intellectual property disputes. He has served as an arbitrator, counsel and an expert witness in arbitrations.

Mr. Bosses is a member of the Panel of Mediators of the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York and of the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. He is also a member of the Panel of Neutrals of WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization), the National Arbitration Forum, the CPR Center for Dispute Resolution and FINRA (the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) as well as being a member of the ADR Sections of the American Bar Association and of the New York State Bar Association.

Mr.Bosses has had extensive training in mediation including programs given by WIPO, the CPR Center for Dispute Resolution and the New York State Supreme Court, Commercial Division.

Mr Bosses graduated from the Cornell University College of Engineering in 1960 and from the Columbia University School of Law in 1963.

Representative Mediations

  • Mediated an industry-wide litigation involving patents covering electronic devices.
  • Defendants had obtained summary judgment from the district court and that judgment was on appeal to the Court of Appeals at the time of the mediation.
  • Mediated a dispute involving a utility patent for an invention in a new foot ware design in which the litigation was between competing foot ware manufacturers.
  • Mediated a dispute involving a patent for an invention in non-lethal devices used by law enforcement and military authorities to subdue suspects.
  • Mediated a suit alleging copyright infringement as well as numerous other causes of action relating to alleged unauthorized use of music and the synchronization rights to that music.
  • Mediated a litigation involving alleged trademark infringement and unfair competition in the sale of allegedly counterfeit parts used in certain machines.
  • Mediated a three party litigation involving alleged copyright infringement by a publisher and a manufacturer in the unauthorized use of artwork prepared by plaintiff. The case also involved indemnity claims by the manufacturer against the publisher.
  • Mediated a dispute involving alleged copyright infringement relating to garment designs.
  • Mediated a litigation involving claims of breach of contract, unjust enrichment and quantum meruit in connection with a contract for the sale of a business.
